On May 28–29, the Third China–Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in Xiamen, China, marking a new stage in the institutionalization and deepening of relations between the two sides. Co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kiribati President and Foreign Minister Taneti Maamau, the meeting brought together representatives from 11 Pacific island countries and the Pacific Islands Forum. Participants issued a comprehensive joint statement reaffirming their commitment to building a closer China–Pacific Island Countries community with a shared future. The meeting emphasized strengthening political trust and deepening strategic cooperation.
China is launching extensive cooperation with Pacific island nations in areas such as climate action, infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Through a new climate cooperation initiative, China will provide $2 million in funding to support energy transition and disaster preparedness in island nations. Additionally, 200 small-scale development projects will be implemented within the year, alongside the deployment of medical teams and scholarship opportunities. These comprehensive initiatives demonstrate that China–Pacific Island cooperation has evolved into a people-centered, sustainable, and win-win model.
