At the first China-Africa Human Rights Seminar held in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, African experts praised China’s role in advancing the right to development across the continent. The seminar, themed “Building a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future and Realizing the Right to Development Together,” brought together more than 200 politicians, scholars, diplomats, and media representatives.
Fredrick Mutesa, Secretary-General of the Zambia-China Friendship Association, said that China supports Africa’s development path with a respectful and mutually beneficial approach, adding: “Through infrastructure investments and economic cooperation, China helps unlock Africa’s potential.” Balew Demissie from Ethiopia’s Policy Studies Institute emphasized that China addresses human rights without politicization, focusing instead on poverty reduction and economic growth. Experts also noted that China’s cooperation with Africa could contribute to achieving the 2030 goals for combating hunger.
