The Belt and Road International Investment Cooperation Event was held in Xiamen on September 9. Guests from Chinese and foreign government departments, international organizations, leading financial and investment institutions, and multinational enterprises gathered to discuss key issues of global investment cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
During the event, the second phase of the China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Berjaya Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s leading Berjaya Group.
Launched by the Export-Import Bank of China, the China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund II focuses on equity investment in areas such as infrastructure, energy resources, and information and communication in ASEAN countries. Berjaya Group is recognized as one of Malaysia’s powerful multinational conglomerates.
The two sides are actively exploring joint projects in fields such as telecommunications, and the MoU is expected to further strengthen cooperation.
At the event, participants exchanged views on topics including “New Paradigms and Directions of Belt and Road Investment Cooperation” and “Belt and Road Investment Supporting Regional Economic Growth.”
Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative, said that China’s stock of investment in BRI partner countries has reached 370 billion U.S. dollars, noting that Chinese investment has brought certainty to the world. He added that China and partner countries are actively engaging in diversified forms of financial cooperation while continuously improving a market-oriented, open, diversified, and green investment and financing system. Sun Chanthol, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, said:
“The Belt and Road Initiative has provided many opportunities for Cambodia. Cooperation with China has helped us promote economic and social development, strengthen infrastructure construction, create jobs, and improve the lives of millions of people. Cambodia is committed to ensuring that BRI cooperation remains sustainable, transparent, and mutually beneficial, advancing digital transformation and sustainable development.”
