The Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC) officially inaugurated its first overseas branch on Tuesday in Malaga, a southern coastal city in Spain.
The establishment aims to provide comprehensive, one-stop legal and commercial support for both Chinese enterprises operating in international markets and multinational companies investing in China.
Francisco de la Torre, mayor of Malaga, said during the opening ceremony that the new hub helps brand Malaga as an open, international city that attracts talent and promotes trade, economic development, and world peace.
Alexander Mejia, Division Director at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), said he looks forward to future cooperation with the SHAC European Hub in training lawyers and legal professionals.
Malaga was chosen to host the SHAC European Hub thanks to its strategic location linking Europe and Africa, its developed legal services sector, and the presence of international organizations. These advantages provide strong operational support and promote global cooperation in advancing international arbitration standards and practices.
At the inauguration ceremony, Fan Mingchao, Executive Vice President of SHAC, stated, “With the efforts of everyone, we will work together to promote international commercial diplomacy for peace.”
Founded in 1995, SHAC is one of China’s pioneering arbitration institutions, known for its internationalized panel of arbitrators.
