The Chinese Embassy in Ghana has hosted a reception in the capital Accra to mark the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Government officials, diplomats, senior military officers, business executives, and scholars attended the reception on Monday, highlighting the time-honored friendship between China and Ghana.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Cong Song noted that Ghana was among the first African countries to establish diplomatic relations with China. China and Ghana share highly compatible development philosophies, and the prospects for cooperation in various fields are broad.

China is willing to work with Ghana to implement the outcomes of the meeting between the heads of state, helping Ghana transform its resource advantages into development momentum and achieve effective synergy between development and environmental protection, Cong said.

Chinese Defense Attache to Ghana Dou Yan underscored the Chinese military’s commitment to working with armed forces of other countries to pursue, safeguard and share peace.

“The Chinese military will continue to hold high the banner of win-win cooperation, and based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, and mutual learning, continue to promote the steady, long-term and in-depth relationship with Ghana Armed Forces,” He added.

Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Defense Ernest Brogya Genfi noted that the two countries have over the years built a robust defense partnership that has contributed significantly to the modernization of the Ghana Armed Forces through cooperation in infrastructure development, professional military training, and equipment support.

Genfi said that Ghana has consistently supported China’s position on various issues at the United Nations (UN), particularly regarding the one-China principle, while China’s firm support has contributed to Ghana’s successful push at the UN to declare the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

“This mutual understanding and respect have fostered a strong foundation for our bilateral relations. As we look to the future, it is imperative that we continue to nurture and strengthen our partnership,” he added.
