Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated on Wednesday that China has always valued its relationship with Myanmar as a significant part of its neighborhood diplomacy and will continue to support Myanmar in choosing a development path suited to its national circumstances. Li made these remarks during a meeting with Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing in Kunming, Yunnan, at the Eighth Greater Mekong Subregion Summit on November 6-7.
Li emphasized China’s support for Myanmar’s political reconciliation and transition, expressing readiness to work with Myanmar to advance the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor within the framework of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. He also called on both sides to strengthen cooperation in education, culture, and tourism, enhance local exchanges, and jointly prevent cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud. Additionally, he voiced hope that Myanmar would ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in the country.
Min Aung Hlaing expressed Myanmar’s gratitude to China for its valuable support in economic and social development and disaster relief efforts. He also appreciated China’s constructive role in promoting peace and reconciliation in Myanmar and assured that Myanmar would take every measure to safeguard the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects. Min Aung Hlaing expressed hope to use next year’s 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations to strengthen bilateral friendship and deepen cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, investment, agriculture, poverty reduction, and people’s livelihoods.
