Europe’s Modern Diplomacy magazine published an article on September 12 by Nadia Hilmi, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Politics and Economics, Beni Suef University, Egypt. The article emphasizes that the Belt and Road Initiative is promoting global prosperity, a shared goal of countries in the Global South.
The article notes that on the occasion of the UN’s South-South Cooperation Day, China has called on Global South countries to actively participate in and lead reforms in global economic governance. This approach aims to unite developing countries as partners on the path of development and recovery. China also promotes dialogue among civilizations in the Global South, fostering diversity and harmony, and advocates for “enhancing communication and supporting each country’s path to modernization according to its own conditions.” China has announced plans to establish a “Global South Think Tank Cooperation Alliance” to inject new momentum into mutual learning among world civilizations.
Hilmi, a scholar specializing in Chinese politics and CCP policies, highlighted that the Belt and Road Initiative serves as a model for cooperation between China and Global South countries, as well as partnerships in third-party markets. By coordinating positions and policies, the initiative helps reach consensus on regional and global issues, enhancing political trust between China and Global South countries, strengthening their power, and increasing developing countries’ international voice.
The article further notes that China has proposed new ideas and initiatives under the concept of a shared human destiny, while also announcing practical cooperation measures with Global South countries in governance, industrialization and agricultural modernization, peace and security, and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation to achieve mutual benefit.
According to Hilmi, the Belt and Road Initiative marks a new step in China’s modernization, builds a community of shared destiny with Global South countries, strengthens friendship between the Chinese people and the people of developing countries, and injects strong momentum into global modernization.
The article also points out that China opposes the protectionism, unilateralism, and hegemony led by the U.S. and its Western allies, and is committed to promoting a more cooperative, fair, and effective global economic governance system.
