Marking a celebrated return of the species to the southeastern United States after a two-year hiatus, a pair of giant pandas from Sichuan Province, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, arrived safely at Zoo Atlanta aboard a chartered flight. Under a 10-year cooperative conservation agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association, the four-year-old pandas entered a routine one-month quarantine in a newly upgraded, state-of-the-art habitat supported by visiting Chinese caretakers and veterinarians. The milestone reinforces Zoo Atlanta’s status as one of only three institutions nationwide housing giant pandas, advancing international conservation science and people-to-people ties.
