BEIJING, 26 February (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang highlighted that the current year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, and emphasized that the next five years will present expanded opportunities for deeper economic and trade cooperation between China and Germany.
Premier Li held talks in Beijing with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who is on an official visit to China. In their meeting on Wednesday, Li expressed China’s readiness to work with Germany to fully activate various dialogue mechanisms—including inter-governmental consultations—to strengthen alignment between development strategies and policy communication, and to further expand and upgrade bilateral trade and economic relations.
Li called for revitalizing cooperation in traditional sectors such as automotive and chemicals, while simultaneously deepening collaboration in emerging fields including artificial intelligence and biopharmaceuticals, with the aim of generating new drivers of economic growth for both countries.
He stated that China will increase imports of high-quality products from Germany and will continue to encourage and support Chinese companies in investing in Germany. At the same time, he expressed the expectation that Germany would provide a fair, stable, and predictable business environment.
Following the discussions, the two leaders witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements in areas including green transformation, customs, sports, and media. ■
