In 2023, China intensified its efforts to enhance employment, as evidenced by data published by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Various levels of government allocated over 300 billion yuan (equivalent to approximately 42.23 billion US dollars) to directly support employment and entrepreneurship endeavors. Yun Donglai, an official from the Ministry, underscored that urban areas witnessed the creation of 12.44 million jobs throughout the year. Additionally, around 33.97 million individuals who had been lifted out of poverty in the preceding year were able to secure new employment opportunities.
China’s initiatives extended to assisting its unemployed populace, with aid provided to 5.14 million citizens facing joblessness. Furthermore, support was extended to 1.72 million individuals experiencing challenges in securing employment, facilitating their placement into new jobs. Embracing an “employment first” strategy, China implemented significant measures to stabilize employment, demonstrating its dedication to prioritizing this aspect.
The ministry official stressed that China would further prioritize employment in the future, intending to enact measures aimed at augmenting the effectiveness of policies geared toward strengthening employment prospects. This commitment underscores China’s resolve to promote economic stability and ensure the welfare of its population.
