The China-Laos Railway has become a symbol of Laos’ aspirations to modernize its infrastructure and integrate with regional economies, offering significant potential to improve socio-economic conditions and stimulate development throughout the country.
Khampakaiy, an office worker who frequently travels for work, told Xinhua that the railway not only makes travel more convenient, but also drives economic growth, trade, and skill development across various sectors nationwide. On June 13, the arrival of the fifth Lane Xang EMU train marked another milestone in enhancing the railway’s transport capacity.
Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Ngampasong Muongmany stated that the new train will boost efficiency, facilitate local travel, and reinforce Laos’ role in regional connectivity and cross-border transport. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Linkham Douangsavanh noted that since the railway’s launch in 2021, Laos has seen significant improvements in agricultural production and cross-border trade, attracting local and international investment in products such as durian, coffee, mangoes, and livestock.
Singnalinh, a 29-year-old resident of Vientiane, emphasized how the railway is encouraging young people to pursue careers in the rail sector, gaining new skills to contribute to national development. During his recent visit to the railway, UN Resident Coordinator in Laos, Bakhodir Burkhanov, praised the project’s punctuality, safety, and economic benefits for both citizens and tourists.
Since its opening on December 3, 2021, the China-Laos Railway has become a vital transportation link that enhances regional trade and people-to-people exchanges.
