An event celebrating the 61st Africa Day was held in Beijing on Saturday. The theme was: “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century.” Addressing the reception, China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Xiaodong reaffirmed the traditional friendship between China and Africa, adding that China would continue to firmly push forward unity and cooperation with countries on the continent. Cameroon’s ambassador and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps in China, Martin Mpana, reiterated the group’s support for the one-China principle. The Organization of African Unity, the predecessor to the African Union, was established on May 25, 1963 – the day designated as Africa Day. The African Diplomatic Corps holds a special reception in Beijing every year to mark the occasion.
