U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the United States and China have agreed on the need to establish communication channels between their armed forces, following a meeting with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun.
In a post shared on social media, Hegseth stated that his discussion with Minister Dong—held on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—was constructive and positive.
According to Hegseth, both sides agreed that peace, stability, and sound relations represent the “best path forward” for both countries.
“Minister Dong and I agreed on the importance of establishing military channels to address potential issues and reduce tensions,” Hegseth noted, adding that further meetings are planned within this framework to enhance mutual understanding and crisis management mechanisms.
