The China-Laos Railway has transported more than 60 million passengers since its launch, including 595,000 cross-border travelers from 115 countries and regions as of Wednesday, according to the China Railway Kunming Group.
To meet the growing demand, a second pair of international trains was added in July between Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, doubling the number of daily services to four. Service improvements include dedicated ticketing counters, support for foreign payment methods, and an optimized cross-border booking system.
This year alone, the passenger volume has reached 15.48 million, marking a 2.38 percent year-on-year increase. The data highlights the China-Laos Railway’s vital role in strengthening regional connectivity. The railway officially began operation in December 2021 and launched international services linking Kunming and Vientiane in April 2023.
