Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a four-point summary of his diplomatic mission across Eurasia during a joint press appearance with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova in Sofia. Serving as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Wang attended the Seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and conducted official visits to Azerbaijan, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bulgaria, framing trust, long-standing bilateral friendship, tangible economic cooperation, and non-aligned partnership as core pillars for navigating international volatility. During the CICA summit, Wang engaged in consultations with Israeli and Palestinian representatives, met regional delegations from the Middle East, and reviewed perspectives on the Ukraine crisis with Balkan leadership, reiterating Beijing’s commitment to multilateral consultation and conflict resolution.
Wang highlighted that all four regional destinations serve as active participants and beneficiaries within the Belt and Road Initiative, citing landmark projects including the Gobustan photovoltaic facility in Azerbaijan, the Peljesac Bridge in Croatia, the Bar-Boljare expressway in Montenegro, and collaborative energy storage deployments with Bulgaria. Looking ahead, Wang affirmed China’s readiness to align the Belt and Road framework with the Middle Corridor while expanding industrial cooperation into new quality productive forces, green technology, and artificial intelligence. Reinforcing Beijing’s foreign policy framework of pursuing shared partnerships rather than bloc alliances, he noted that stable bilateral coordination across Central and Eastern European Countries directly reinforces broader China-Europe strategic dialogue, expressing support for upgrading the China-CEEC cooperation platform as it approaches its 15th anniversary in 2027.
