Nursena Burus, a 19-year-old from Manisa, Turkey, set off to China for language learning and cultural exploration, seizing the opportunity to experience the country’s unique atmosphere first-hand. Inspired by her sister’s life at Xiamen University, Burus shared, “My family and friends thought learning Chinese was too hard. But when my sister showed me her friends, festivals, and food in China, I began to see it not just as a place for study, but as an adventure.”
Arriving in China in February 2024, Burus was immediately captivated by the vibrant celebrations of Chinese New Year. Streets adorned with red decorations, traditional paper cuttings, and festive banners created an unforgettable atmosphere. “Everywhere I went, the streets were filled with red—it was a completely new and impressive experience for me,” she noted, comparing it to the festive spirit of Ramadan in Turkey and emphasizing the importance of family gatherings.
Burus’ experiences in China were further enriched by the country’s rich culinary culture and modern conveniences. The delicious local cuisine and the ease of digital payment systems brightened her daily life, while her interactions with locals deepened her appreciation for Chinese culture. Her journey has not only made China feel like a second home but also stands as a testament to the growing cultural ties between Türkiye and China.
