Construction sites south of Budapest, the capital of Hungary, highlight projects carried out through China-Hungary partnerships. In the Hungarian section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway—one of the key projects of the Belt and Road Initiative—China’s leading construction companies are working alongside local business partners. Once the 159-kilometer Hungarian segment is completed, travel time between Budapest and Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, will be reduced from eight hours to three hours. This development will strengthen Hungary’s position as a logistics hub in Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, an environmental assessment report aligned with European Union standards has been prepared for the project, emphasizing the importance of green construction practices.
Moreover, the Central European Trade and Logistics Cooperation Park, connected to the Csepel Port along the Danube River near Budapest, facilitates Chinese companies’ access to the European market. The park features modern logistics facilities, container transportation, and warehousing services, as well as smart warehouse projects designed for cross-border e-commerce operations. Through this cooperation, Chinese investments are boosting local employment while significantly accelerating international trade.
These developments demonstrate the increasing quality of practical cooperation between China and Hungary. Within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the two countries are deepening their partnerships in investment, infrastructure, finance, new energy, and communication technologies. As Hungary strengthens its collaboration with China through its “Opening to the East” strategy, both sides continue to implement projects that enhance mutual benefits and contribute to regional economic revitalization.
