Vietnamese conductor Tong Guangrong and Chinese composer Mo Shuangshuang are bringing a new dimension to China-Vietnam friendship through music. Both developed a passion for music in their childhood, and their paths first crossed in 2006 at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. What began as a musical collaboration eventually blossomed into a shared life journey. After marrying, the couple settled in Vietnam and founded the “New Vitality” bamboo music ensemble, blending Chinese and Vietnamese musical traditions. All bamboo instruments used by the ensemble are handcrafted by Tong’s father, reflecting Vietnam’s artisanal heritage.
Over time, the group evolved into a full-fledged ethnic orchestra, gaining attention through performances in both countries. The ensemble often collaborates with the international choir “Voices of Hanoi,” which brings together music lovers from diverse backgrounds. Beyond being artists, Tong and Mo are cultural ambassadors of the Belt and Road Initiative. Their children are growing up surrounded by music, ensuring that this multicultural legacy continues to flourish. For Tong Guangrong, the most beautiful melody is the lasting harmony of China-Vietnam friendship.
