According to PipeChina West Pipeline Company, the China-Central Asia Gas Pipeline, which became operational in 2009, has delivered a total of over 500 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China. This volume of gas has helped reduce the consumption of approximately 666 million tonnes of standard coal, equivalent to the prevention of 731 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
As China’s first international natural gas pipeline, the pipeline spans 1,833 kilometers and is designed with an annual transmission capacity of 60 billion cubic meters. The pipeline begins at the border of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, passes through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and connects with China’s West-to-East Gas Pipeline in Horgos, located in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The pipeline has supplied natural gas to more than 500 million people across 27 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
