China’s women’s lacrosse team played its first-ever match in the history of The World Games on Wednesday, facing a tough 24-2 loss against Britain in the opening round of the 2025 Games in Chengdu. Despite the score, this marked a significant milestone for Chinese lacrosse.
The British team dominated the game from the start, finishing the first half with a 15-0 lead. China’s Zou Kexuan and Chen Li each scored in the second half, making history as China’s first-ever goals in the Games. “It’s a great honor to score the first goal for China, but this was truly a team effort,” Zou said.
The team, consisting of 12 players between the ages of 18 and 33, most of whom are university students, had completed a three-week intensive training camp in Shanghai before the tournament. Head coach Xiao Xiao described the event as a valuable learning experience, noting it was the first time a national lacrosse team had represented China in an international competition.
