Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning has asserted that the US’s “small garden, high fence” policy is ineffective in impeding China’s innovation-driven progress and does not yield any advantages for US companies or the broader semiconductor sector. Mao issued this statement during a routine press conference in response to a query on the matter on Tuesday.
In the latest submission to the US Securities and Exchange Commission by the American chip manufacturer Nvidia, Huawei was mentioned among its existing rivals in artificial intelligence, chip manufacturing, and various other domains for the first time. The report indicated that if further alterations were made to the US government’s export regulations, Huawei’s competitive standing could both improve and suffer.
Emphasizing that collaborative openness serves as the primary catalyst for semiconductor industry growth, Mao highlighted China’s position as one of the world’s largest semiconductor markets. He argued that dividing the market, disrupting global industry and supply chains, and impeding efficiency and innovation would not be beneficial to any party.
Mao advocated for the United States to adhere to market economy principles and fair competition, urging it to support global companies in advancing science and technology through healthy competitive dynamics.
