An event promoting the fifth volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” was held here on Friday.
Participants said the fifth volume is an authoritative work that comprehensively and systematically reflects the latest achievements of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and helps the international community further deepen its understanding of China’s path, governance and philosophy.
Noting that China and Sri Lanka are fellow travelers on the path to modernization, the participants said that the event carries significant meaning for the two countries to enhance mutual understanding, build consensus, deepen cooperation, and to jointly build a China-Sri Lanka community with a shared future.
Addressing the event, Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne said the publication of the fifth volume provides valuable perspectives into China’s vision of governance, development, innovation and international cooperation. Beyond documenting China’s development experience, the book also demonstrates China’s deep reflections on safeguarding global peace and promoting shared prosperity, he said.
Sri Lanka is willing to continue expanding exchange and cooperation in all areas with China and promote new progress of the Sri Lanka-China strategic cooperative partnership based on sincere mutual assistance and ever-lasting friendship, said Wickramaratne.
Madhura Senevirathna, Sri Lanka’s deputy minister of education and higher education, said in his speech that the fifth volume presents a clear architecture for Chinese modernization, covering all fields including economic development, scientific innovation, modern education, and cultural heritage preservation.
Any country that seeks to achieve modernization without losing its historical roots can draw valuable insights from the book, he said.
Geeganage Weerasinghe, general secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, said in his speech that the Communist Party of China’s achievements in developing new quality productive forces, promoting high-quality development, achieving self-reliance and strength in science and technology and building an ecological civilization fully prove that the socialist system is capable of organizing modernization more efficiently and better balancing equity and efficiency.
During the event, the Chinese side presented Sri Lankan guests with copies of the English edition of the fifth volume and the Sinhalese edition of the second volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.”
Experts from both countries exchanged views on topics including national governance, green development, opening cooperation, and the Belt and Road cooperation.
The event was jointly organized by China’s State Council Information Office, China International Communications Group and the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka. It was attended by nearly 300 participants from both countries, including representatives from political circles, higher-education institutions, think tanks, media organizations and other sectors.
