In recent years, especially with the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries and China in infrastructure, transportation, and trade has yielded significant results. The increasing frequency and capacity of the China-Europe Express Train have made it a crucial economic corridor connecting China, Europe, and other countries along the Belt and Road route. The former Deputy Prime Minister of Poland emphasized that, in this period of global uncertainties, European countries should strengthen their constructive dialogue with China and deepen bilateral relations.
Since its launch in 2011, the China-Europe Express Train has completed over 100,000 trips and transported more than 1.1 million containers. Thanks to modernized infrastructure, expanded transfer points, and accelerated customs procedures, train travel times have significantly shortened. As of 2024, rail freight transportation from China to Europe has increased by 11%. Poland, particularly through the Malaszewicze logistics hub, has become one of the most critical countries along this trade route. Shipments from China to Poland grew by 221% in the third quarter of 2024, while freight transport to Germany, Hungary, and the Netherlands also recorded significant growth. With Poland set to assume the EU Presidency in 2025, China-Europe relations are expected to strengthen further.
