Hun Sen, President of the Senate, has reaffirmed that Cambodia needs an independent waterway for transport for her economic and political independence.
The Cambodian former Prime Minister confirmed this in his special message delivered on May 16 via the National Television of Cambodia (TVK), in addition to his firm stance at the closing ceremony of the Cambodian Oknha Association (COA)’s first conference here recently, in response to various comments among Cambodian extreme oppositionists and reaction from her neighbour, Vietnam.
Besides, Hun Sen reiterated that the Funan Techo Canal project was originally Cambodia’s initiative, not a part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which extreme oppositionists raised.
Hun Sen, in his address, highlighted the myriad benefits of the Funan Techo Canal project for the local community. From improved travel and transport to enhanced irrigation systems, flood prevention, and better livelihoods, the project promises to uplift the southwestern region of the country.
