Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya stated on Wednesday that Kuwait-China relations have been consistently evolving, transforming into a strategic partnership through long-term cooperation on development projects that benefit both nations.
In a joint interview with Chinese media, the minister emphasized that a clear roadmap for advancing Kuwait-China relations was outlined during a meeting between the leaders of the two countries in September 2023. Al-Yahya noted, “Six major projects are currently being implemented in coordination with the Chinese side, progressing steadily and in parallel.”
The senior Kuwaiti diplomat also expressed appreciation for China’s stance on urgent issues in the Middle East. “We fully support and welcome China’s position on the Middle East,” he said. “We are facing challenging conditions in the region; the situation is very tense, and we hope for China’s continued support in this regard.”
Regarding Kuwait’s perspective on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Al-Yahya highlighted that Kuwait was “one of the first countries to have a special connection with the Silk Road, and we remain committed to this vision, which will materialize in the near future.”
The interview was conducted on Wednesday evening during the inauguration of the new building of the Chinese Embassy in Hawalli, Kuwait.
