Laos seeks to encourage farmers and producers to promote sustainable agricultural production and increase exports of agricultural products to China through the China-Laos Railway.
A fruit seller in the capital city, Vientiane, said, “I’ve heard that some Chinese businesspeople are interested in growing durian in Laos to meet the rising demand for fruit among Chinese consumers. I believe this is a golden opportunity for Laos to benefit from the Chinese market. We have abundant natural resources and plenty of land suitable for cultivation. I think Laos could be a potential supplier of products for China.”
The Lao government is encouraging farmers and producers to supply more goods to the domestic market while also expanding export-oriented production to bring in much-needed foreign currency and help reduce high exchange rates.
