On September 1, with the completion of the final asphalt layer of the bridge deck, the main bridge of the “Belt and Road” China-Europe Railway Express Xi’an Assembly Center Air-Rail Intermodal Project, built by China State Construction Third Engineering Bureau (CSCEC 3rd Bureau), was fully opened.
The bridge is one of the supporting projects of the Xi’an Assembly Center, stretching over 1,200 meters in length. It is also China’s first portal pier, double-span, ultra-wide, asymmetrical concrete girder swing bridge. Huang Kui, Party Secretary and General Manager of the Infrastructure Division of CSCEC 3rd Bureau Northwest Company, stated that the project team adhered to the philosophy of “Green and low-carbon start from the heart, quality and responsibility are shown through action.” He emphasized that the team overcame difficulties with smart and green construction methods to deliver a reliable and high-quality project.
With the separation of the viaduct and the freight railway, traffic efficiency on the Xi’an Yanyuan Expressway is expected to increase by 30% after the project opens. Travel time from Chanba International Port to Gaoling District will be shortened from over 40 minutes to less than 20 minutes.
Moreover, as the key link of Chanba International Port’s “land port + airport” dual hub, the project will enable the Xi’an Assembly Center to connect rapidly with Airport New City, Jinghe New City, Aviation Base, Weibei Industrial Park, and Gaoling District. It will effectively promote coordinated development between land and air ports, further improve transportation efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and enhance the outreach capacity of the China-Europe Railway Express (Xi’an).
By implementing a “one bill system” covering railway, highway, and air transport, logistics efficiency will be improved by 15%.
