Following recognition of their proficiency in Chinese, more than 300 Ghanaian students have been awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship. The recipients include students from Confucius Institutes at three Ghanaian universities as well as primary and secondary school students. China’s Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, highlighted the growing popularity of Chinese among Ghanaian students, emphasizing that the increasing number of young locals learning Chinese is helping them broaden their global outlook. The University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast, and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have each established Confucius Institutes to promote and teach the Chinese language and culture.
