On the morning of March 28, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Bangladesh’s Interim Government Chief Adviser Yunus at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping highlighted the long-standing friendship between the peoples of China and Bangladesh, emphasizing their historical ties through the ancient Silk Road. As the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the China-Bangladesh Year of Cultural Exchange, Xi stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation to benefit both nations. He reaffirmed China’s support for Bangladesh’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity and expressed a commitment to deepening collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, particularly in areas such as digital economy, green economy, and infrastructure development.
Chief Adviser Yunus acknowledged the strong and trust-based friendship between Bangladesh and China, reiterating Bangladesh’s commitment to the One China principle and its opposition to “Taiwan independence.” He expressed Bangladesh’s desire to use the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership with China. Yunus also welcomed increased Chinese investment in Bangladesh to support the country’s economic transformation and praised China’s global initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and development.
