On the morning of June 24, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who is on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi congratulated Wong on his re-election as Prime Minister. He noted that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore, emphasizing that the two countries have always maintained a stable and healthy relationship based on mutual understanding and respect.
Xi stated that both countries should continue to develop their relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. He welcomed Singapore’s deeper integration into China’s development and proposed strengthening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative in areas such as the digital economy, green development, and artificial intelligence. He also stressed the importance of increasing people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation. Xi reiterated China’s commitment to a global order based on peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit, and expressed his willingness to work with Singapore to promote a more just, multipolar, and inclusive world order.
Prime Minister Wong affirmed the deep and enduring friendship between Singapore and China, noting that the two countries have maintained close relations based on mutual respect and trust. He said China is the first non-ASEAN country he has visited since his re-election and reaffirmed Singapore’s adherence to the one-China policy and opposition to “Taiwan independence.” Wong expressed his intention to seize the opportunities presented by China’s development by expanding cooperation in digital economy, AI, and new energy. He also emphasized Singapore’s readiness to strengthen coordination with China on multilateral platforms and expressed confidence in China playing a greater role in promoting world peace.
