A speech delivered by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), at the Central Urban Work Conference will be published tomorrow.
The speech, delivered by Xi in his capacity as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee as well as President of the People’s Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, will appear in the second issue of this year’s Qiushi journal, the CPC Central Committee’s flagship theoretical publication.
In the article, Xi notes that China’s urbanization process has transitioned from a phase of rapid expansion to a stage of steady and high-quality development. He emphasizes that urban development is shifting from large-scale physical expansion toward improving the quality and efficiency of existing urban infrastructure.
The article also outlines the fundamental requirements for urban development in the current and forthcoming periods, underscoring the goal of building modern people-centered cities that are innovative, livable, aesthetically pleasing, resilient, culturally advanced, and smart. In this context, Xi stresses the need to formulate a new roadmap for a distinctly Chinese path toward urban modernization.
