In a dimly lit room, where the echoes of past diplomatic endeavors linger, a new chapter of cooperation is being written between Baghdad and Beijing. It was here that Ambassador Muhammad Hussein Muhammad Bahr Al-Ulum, the Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations of Baghdad, alongside the Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Wang Di, convened. Their meeting, a testament to the ever-evolving diplomatic relations, aimed at strengthening ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation between Iraq and China.

    Strengthening Ties and Expanding Cooperation

The discussions, rich with the promise of mutual growth, centered around the fourth round of political consultations between the two nations’ foreign ministries. The delegates, including the Chinese Ambassador to Iraq Mr. Cui Wei, and the head of Asia and Australia Department Dr. Hamid Al-Jubouri, delved into the outcomes of Bahr Al-Ulum’s recent visit to Beijing. A focal point of their discourse was the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Iraq’s Development Road. This strategic partnership is envisioned to enhance connectivity between the east and west, facilitating the transport of goods through the Middle East from Asia to Europe.

Addressing Regional Issues and Advocating for Peace

Amid their discussions on cooperation, the situation in Gaza was brought to the forefront, with Mr. Wang Di advocating for an end to the aggression and emphasizing the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinian people. The Chinese delegation called for a resolution to the unrest in the Middle East, attributing it to the conflict in Gaza, and stressed the importance of halting aggression towards civilians. This sentiment echoes the international plea for peace and the resolution of conflicts that have long plagued the region. For further context on the situation in Gaza and its impact on the Middle East, readers may refer to related discussions.

Reaffirming Commitment to Mutual Growth and Peace

The meeting concluded with Mr. Bahr Al-Ulum expressing respect for the one China principle and both parties reaffirming their commitment to further cooperation to serve the interests of both countries. Furthermore, they sought a permanent resolution to the Palestinian issue, reflecting a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous future. The dialogue between Baghdad and Beijing, thus, stands as a beacon of hope, not just for enhanced bilateral relations but also for the broader quest for peace in the Middle East.
