On February 7, 2025, during a spectacular opening ceremony held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province in northeast China, Chinese President Xi Jinping officially opened the 9th Asian Winter Games. The announcement was made at the Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Center, where over 8,000 spectators erupted in enthusiastic applause. The ceremony was attended by International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and other distinguished guests. The event was also held at Harbin Ice and Snow World, the world’s largest ice and snow themed park.
The Games will run from February 7 to February 14, and this international winter sports event, organized under the slogan “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia,” marks a significant sports occasion hosted by China following the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. A record number of participants from 34 countries and regions are taking part, with over 1,200 athletes competing in ice events in Harbin and snow events in Yabuli. The Chinese delegation consists of 257 members, including a team of 170 athletes competing in 64 events across six different disciplines.
