On the morning of February 6, at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Brunei Sultan Hassanal, who is on a state visit to China. Xi Jinping emphasized that the longstanding relationship between China and Brunei—built on mutual trust and friendship—has been further strengthened through diplomatic support and practical cooperation. He stressed that these ties, based on the principles of equality and win-win cooperation, have significantly contributed to regional peace, stability, and development.
During the meeting, Xi Jinping expressed that both countries aim to deepen their strategic cooperation in building a community of shared destiny under the Belt and Road Initiative. He noted that China plans to expand cooperation with Brunei in economic, trade, cultural, and technological fields in line with Brunei’s “2035 Vision” to safeguard the common interests of both nations. Xi Jinping also highlighted the importance of increasing investments in Brunei and strengthening partnerships in sectors such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, new energy, and hybrid rice.
Following the talks, the two leaders jointly signed a “Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the New Era” and approved several cooperation documents covering areas such as justice, Belt and Road collaboration, trade, and media. Brunei Sultan Hassanal conveyed his heartfelt New Year wishes to Xi Jinping and the Chinese people, expressing his admiration for China’s modernization achievements and exemplary international experience, and reaffirmed Brunei’s commitment to supporting this trust-based friendship and cooperation.
