During a routine press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian sharply condemned the United States’ irresponsible remarks on the Panama Canal. Lin Jian stated that these comments deliberately distort cooperation and even contain attacks aimed at discrediting joint projects. He emphasized that China firmly opposes such behavior and has engaged in serious diplomatic discussions with the US.
Lin Jian also highlighted that the Belt and Road Initiative, proposed in 2013 and widely acclaimed in the international arena, has continuously expanded its scope of cooperation and achieved tangible success based on the principles of peace, openness, and mutual benefit. He further noted that key projects, such as those in collaboration with Pakistan, continue to progress normally. Lin Jian urged all relevant parties to make sound decisions in consideration of the long-term interests of both nations and their peoples, free from external interference. He added that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has already provided clarifications regarding its port operations near the Panama Canal
