The Thai Cabinet has approved the second phase of the high-speed rail project proposed by the Ministry of Transport and carried out under the Belt and Road Initiative. It was noted that this project, approximately 357 kilometers in length, consists of two sections.
This project, jointly implemented by China and Thailand, is Thailand’s first high-speed rail project. The first phase connects Bangkok with Nakhon Ratchasima in the country’s northeast, while the second phase will extend the railway to Nong Khai in northeastern Thailand, integrating with the China-Laos Railway to provide direct access to Kunming.
This high-speed rail project is aimed at providing new momentum to Thailand’s economic and social development as well as regional integration. Upon its completion, the strengthening of the international transportation network developed under the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Thailand will allow for deeper cooperation in both trade and cultural and economic spheres.
