Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Pakistan President Zardari, who is visiting China on a state visit. Xi Jinping emphasized that the longstanding relationship between China and Pakistan, built on mutual trust and friendship, is an exemplary “iron-clad friendship” and “all-weather strategic partnership.” He highlighted that in recent years, with strong political support and high-level exchanges, the relations between the two countries have achieved tangible results, especially within the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Xi Jinping stressed the need to further deepen cooperation in economic, diplomatic, and cultural fields.
During the meeting, the importance of strategic alignment and the sharing of governance experiences between the two nations was underscored. Xi Jinping affirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and noted that both sides will take steps to expand their existing cooperation to safeguard their mutual interests.
Following the talks, the two presidents jointly signed a “Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the New Era,” and various cooperation documents covering diplomacy, trade, agriculture, and culture were approved. Prior to the meeting, a military ceremony at Tiananmen Square featuring 21 rounds of cannon salutes further reinforced the enduring friendship between the two countries.
