On May 27, the first-ever trilateral summit between ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), China, and the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This historic meeting stood out as a significant turning point in the global order, where multipolarity is increasingly strengthening, and was seen as a groundbreaking step in regional economic cooperation alongside the rise of the Global South.
The trilateral cooperation mechanism established among China, ASEAN, and the GCC will not only enhance the economic prosperity of the parties involved but also contribute to peace and development in Asia and beyond. Through the joint statement adopted at the summit, the parties emphasized their determination to advance the spirit of inclusivity, sustainability, resilience, and equal partnership. China’s commitment to high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative enables further deepening of regional connectivity. The summit is regarded as a hopeful step not only for the three parties but also for building a fairer and more multilateral global governance system.
