On December 31, 2024, the China Ports Association’s “Belt and Road” Central Asia Countries Cooperation Subcommittee was officially launched in Urumqi. The establishment of this committee aims to further strengthen cooperation between China and Central Asian countries in the fields of ports and trade. The committee will serve as a platform for the development of port infrastructure and the enhancement of logistics networks.
In recent years, economic relations between China and Central Asian countries have developed rapidly. These advancements have led to closer cooperation in trade, culture, and energy. Ports have become key connection points in this cooperation, facilitating border crossings and boosting trade between the parties. Additionally, strengthening land routes and transportation networks under the “Belt and Road” Initiative is crucial for the security of China’s supply chains.
The Central Asia Countries Cooperation Subcommittee aims to improve port infrastructure, enhance logistics services, and further facilitate trade. The committee plans to increase trade opportunities between China and Central Asian countries, promote cooperation in logistics, storage, and financial services. These efforts are expected to ensure the security of China’s strategic land routes in the west and accelerate economic development in the region.
The Urumqi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was selected as the committee’s base. With its advantages in logistics infrastructure and air transport networks, the region is expected to play a key role in boosting trade between China and Central Asia. Furthermore, investments in the air transport and logistics sectors are anticipated to improve border crossing efficiency and strengthen the air economy.
