According to the China Meteorological News on May 9, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) held a welcome ceremony on May 8 for the 2025 Belt and Road Meteorological Visiting Scholars. Vice Administrator of the CMA, Cao Xiaozhong, attended the event.
Seven visiting scholars from Mongolia, Cameroon, Indonesia, Maldives, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Egypt expressed their gratitude to the CMA for providing this valuable learning and exchange opportunity. They also shared their excitement about studying and living in China. During their stay, they will participate in joint projects at institutions such as the National Meteorological Center, National Climate Center, National Satellite Meteorological Center, Earth System Numerical Prediction Center, and the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. Their work will involve developing early warning platforms, innovating satellite meteorology with Fengyun satellites, and conducting research related to climate change.
Cao Xiaozhong warmly welcomed the scholars, emphasizing that “the atmosphere knows no borders,” and that collaboration is essential in addressing climate risks and narrowing the early warning gap. He encouraged the scholars to engage in in-depth exchanges on early warning technologies and disaster risk reduction during their year in China, to actively contribute to Belt and Road meteorological cooperation, and to experience and share Chinese and global cultures.
Guided by the CMA’s Department of Human Resources and Department of International Cooperation, the Meteorological Training Institute (CMA Center for International Cooperation and Training), in collaboration with Peking University, selected the seven scholars from over 60 global applicants. This marks the second group of meteorological visiting scholars hosted under this program since its inception.
