The Belt and Road Initiative, which carries the spirit of the ancient Silk Road, has become the world’s largest international cooperation platform in just 11 years with tangible successes. Launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, the initiative has opened a new chapter in global development through cooperation agreements with over 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations. Projects in trade, infrastructure, energy, and cultural exchange have strengthened ties between countries and directly improved the lives of millions.
To date, trade between China and its partner countries has reached 160 trillion yuan, and over 100,000 China-Europe train trips have been organized as part of the initiative. Additionally, more than 30 Luban Workshops have been established in Asia, Europe, and Africa, increasing international cooperation in vocational training.
In October, Xi Jinping emphasized at the Third Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum that the initiative is progressing with the goal of “high-quality development,” focusing on environmental sustainability and people’s well-being. Key projects include transportation networks in Central Asia, healthcare investments in Southeast Asia, and poverty alleviation efforts in Africa.
Future goals of the Belt and Road include green infrastructure and energy projects, technological innovation, and global cooperation to reduce poverty. China has stated that this initiative will continue to serve the world as a “path of prosperity” that strengthens ties between countries and fosters shared development.
