China and Cambodia, bonded by years of close friendship, are transforming people’s lives through practical, on-the-ground cooperation. Infrastructure projects supported by China—such as the country’s first expressway, largest dam, stadium, and overpass—have directly benefited Cambodian communities. In poor villages especially, development initiatives are shaped around the specific needs of local residents through direct engagement. Chinese experts are providing technical know-how in areas like rice and prawn farming, emphasizing a “teach a man to fish” approach that supports Cambodia’s path to sustainable development.
Joint initiatives under the Belt and Road Initiative, such as the “Fish and Rice Corridor,” bring together Cambodia’s natural endowments with China’s technological expertise. Agricultural and aquaculture knowledge transfer is boosting farmers’ incomes, while China’s experience in poverty alleviation, education, and industrial modernization is being closely studied and adopted by Cambodian officials.
Infrastructure investments have also strengthened both physical and digital connectivity between the two nations. Roads, bridges, and internet infrastructure built by Chinese firms are enabling smoother transportation, e-commerce, and digital services across Cambodia. China’s motto “to get rich, build a road first” resonates with the Cambodian saying “where there is a road, there is hope.” Together, the two countries are aligning the Belt and Road Initiative with Cambodia’s “Pentagon Strategy” by advancing projects like the “Fish and Rice Corridor” and the “Industrial Development Corridor,” paving the way for shared regional prosperity.
