The 26th China-France Strategic Dialogue was held in Beijing, co-chaired by Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to the French President.
Wang Yi emphasized that the two countries’ leaders had maintained close interactions over the past year, shaping the development of China-France and China-Europe relations. He expressed China’s willingness to work with France to ensure that these relations continue contributing to global peace and stability. Wang outlined four proposals to achieve this goal: using the consensus of the two leaders as a guide to enhance bilateral agendas, promoting pragmatic cooperation and exploring new areas for collaboration, sustaining the positive outcomes of the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism, and jointly defending multilateralism.
Bonne underlined France’s strong commitment to the traditional friendship and mutual trust with China, reaffirming its adherence to the one-China policy and its intention to maintain high-level exchanges. He stated that France opposes bloc confrontation and remains committed to its independent diplomatic tradition, aiming to expand strong and innovative cooperation with China.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance multilateral coordination and strengthen cooperation on climate change, biodiversity, sustainable development, and poverty reduction. Global and regional issues, including China-Europe economic and trade relations, the Ukraine crisis, the Iranian nuclear issue, and the situation in the Middle East, were also discussed. Wang urged Europe to adopt a constructive approach, while Bonne reiterated France’s opposition to trade wars and support for mutually beneficial cooperation between Europe and China.
