Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, and US Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, have concurred to execute the significant compromise established by the two heads of state during their meeting in San Francisco. Meeting in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on Sunday, the two ministers have committed to advancing bilateral cooperation in drug control and law enforcement while addressing mutual concerns. They pledged to engage in candid, thorough, and constructive discussions regarding the implementation of the agreements outlined by the heads of state in San Francisco. Wang underscored the unveiling of the forward-looking “San Francisco Vision” by Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden during their historic meeting.
Wang stressed the importance of both sides adhering to the key consensus reached by their leaders, adhering to principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation, while also respecting each other’s core interests and major concerns. Additionally, he highlighted the need for cooperation on drug control and law enforcement and expressed hope for the removal of barriers to people-to-people interactions. Wang urged the US to halt unwarranted harassment and interrogation of Chinese students, ensure equal treatment of Chinese citizens upon entry, and fully protect their dignity.
Furthermore, Wang called upon Washington to take concrete and effective measures to safeguard the security of China’s diplomatic and consular missions and personnel in the US, lift visa restrictions on relevant Chinese institutions and personnel, and rectify the misclassification of China as “one of the major drug source countries.” Both sides have committed to maintaining stable China-US relations by implementing the important consensus reached by their leaders, sustaining dialogue and cooperation on drug control and law enforcement, addressing concerns, and resolving issues based on mutual respect, managing differences, and fostering mutually beneficial cooperation. They have agreed to contribute to the development of bilateral relations through these efforts.
