The Chinese government donated a batch of medical supplies to Sao Tome and Principe during a handover ceremony held on Tuesday. The donation included essential medicines, surgical instruments, and routine examination equipment.
Sao Tome and Principe’s Minister of Health, Celso Matos, described China as a “reliable partner” in the development of the country’s healthcare system. He emphasized that the donation would help alleviate medical supply shortages and expressed hope for continued cooperation between the two nations in the healthcare sector.
Chinese Ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe, Xu Yingzhen, reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, particularly in technical exchanges and training healthcare professionals, to improve local access to medical services. Zhao Linyong, head of the 19th batch of the Chinese medical team in the country, stated that local health authorities would distribute the donated supplies to hospitals and clinics nationwide.
In November, China also donated medical equipment to Sao Tome and Principe, including ventilators, monitors, and central venous catheters, to support intensive care units and surgical procedures.
