Green cooperation between China and Europe is gaining momentum as the two sides deepen collaboration in sustainable development and the green transition. Joint efforts across sectors—especially in renewable energy—are supporting global progress toward the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Europe’s decarbonization ambitions are increasingly aligning with China’s strengths in manufacturing and technology, resulting in tangible partnerships in solar and wind energy. For instance, 85% of the solar panels used in Portugal come from China, playing a vital role in the country’s energy targets.
In Central and Eastern Europe, China-backed projects such as the Ivovik Wind Power Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Maestrale Ring wind farm in Serbia, and solar power stations in Romania are boosting local clean energy capacity while contributing to economic growth and job creation. Cooperation also extends to the automotive and maritime sectors. Chinese battery manufacturers are investing in European EV supply chains, and maritime partnerships with countries like Norway are helping cut emissions and build green innovation together.
