Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced that China is prepared to expand practical cooperation with other BRICS members and partners across various fields. Mao made this statement during a daily press briefing following Russia’s announcement of its list of BRICS partners.
She noted that the establishment of the BRICS partners category was an outcome of the BRICS summit held in October in Kazan, Russia. After the summit, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Uganda were designated as BRICS partners. Mao emphasized that this development marks a significant milestone in the bloc’s evolution following last year’s historic expansion.
Mao highlighted that the BRICS mechanism now has greater representation, increasing its appeal and influence, and described it as an important platform for fostering unity and cooperation among the Global South. BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, representing five major emerging markets with significant economic potential.
