The number of charging infrastructure facilities for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China increased by 47.6 percent year-on-year by the end of March 2025, reflecting the country’s ongoing efforts to expand its charging network.
According to Zhang Xing from the National Energy Administration (NEA), the total number of charging facilities nationwide reached approximately 13.75 million by the end of March.
This figure includes 3.9 million public charging points and 9.85 million private installations.
Additionally, highways now feature 38,000 charging points covering 98 percent of service areas across the country. Thirteen provincial-level regions have extended coverage to all townships, raising the township-level penetration rate to 76.91 percent.
To further integrate NEVs with the power grid, the NEA, together with related departments, has launched pilot projects for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction in nine cities, including Shanghai. A total of 30 bidirectional charging projects have been selected for testing and validation.
