China has shared its development experience over the years and helped construct rural road infrastructure in other developing countries, contributing significantly to poverty reduction, public well-being, and sustainable global development, according to a white paper released on Friday.
These efforts include providing technical standards for highway engineering tailored to different national conditions. The white paper, titled “China’s Rural Roads in the New Era” and issued by the State Council Information Office, highlights China’s emphasis on standardization and its promotion of innovative, cooperative, green, and open development supported by standards. China has also played an active role in building new platforms and mechanisms for global transport cooperation and fostering knowledge and experience sharing. For instance, China established the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center, which serves as a platform for cooperation and exchanges and facilitates the sharing of China’s experience in rural road development with the international community.
The white paper notes that China has shared its expertise through international training sessions as well. It has organized 28 training programs, including a road design and management training session and an advanced highway engineering training program for countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. Moreover, China has supported rural road construction projects and provided aid to a large number of rural road infrastructure initiatives in developing countries.
Since 2018, China has assisted 24 developing countries, including Cambodia, Serbia, Rwanda, Namibia, Vanuatu, and Niger, in highway and bridge construction and maintenance, helping these countries improve their transport infrastructure, the white paper said.
