China’s largest offshore oil field, the Bohai Oil Field, recorded a new milestone in 2025 by surpassing 40 million tons of oil-equivalent production. According to data released by the China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), the field has cumulatively produced more than 600 million tons of crude oil to date.
Operating over 60 oil and natural gas fields, the Bohai Oil Field has demonstrated sustained growth, with oil and gas output increasing at an average annual rate of approximately 5 percent over the past five years. This performance underscores the strategic importance of offshore energy production in supporting China’s long-term energy security and resource sustainability.
